It is the
only way that important medical research on the human
brain can progress. It is not possible to look at the
cells of the brain in living people without doing harm
and damage. Even the most sophisticated brain imaging
techniques cannot see the cell structure. To understand
how the cells that make up the brain work, or how they
are not working, requires looking at brain tissue after
death.
As with other donor programs, it is crucial that |
|
| we encourage
members from all sections of the community to participate.
These types of programs exist in many countries, providing
valuable information on the diagnosis and treatment of
many common diseases. We ask that you consider donating
your brain to medical science after you die. Any information
or tissue given to the program is considered confidential
and the program is monitored by ethics commitees. |
